The Lake of the Woods Democratic Club will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 10 in Classroom A of the LOW Community Center.
During the meeting, members will consider new officers for 2022 and plans for the annual holiday luncheon. There will also be discussion of the experiences of club members who were involved in the recent General Election campaigns.
Come and help us celebrate the passage of the infrastructure bill in Congress.

Annette Hyde, Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates from the 30th District, is scheduled to appear at the Oct. 13 meeting of the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club.
In addition, Jackson Miller, regional organizing director for the Virginia Turnout Coordinated Campaign, will provide an update on the statewide races and what we can do between now and Election Day to help the Terry McAuliffe / Haya Ayala / Mark Herring ticket win.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. with a time for meeting and greeting and the program will commence at 1:30 in Classroom 2 at the LOW Community Center.

“Combating Food Insecurity in Central Virginia” will be the subject of the September 8 meeting of the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club.
Dan Maher, president and chief executive officer of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, and Nicki Buell, director of the Lions Wilderness Food Pantry in Locust Grove, will speak about the role of their organizations in addressing the needs of our food insecure neighbors. They will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on their programs and offer suggestions for ways citizens can help.
The meeting will begin with a meet-and-greet session at 1 p.m. in Classroom 2 of the Lake of the Woods Community Center at Sweetbriar Park. The program will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Maher, who grew up in Hampton, Virginia, attended The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, where he earned a B.B.A. degree in business management. He continued his education at St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, obtaining a master of divinity degree.
Subsequently, he spent almost 15 years in a variety of roles in ministerial and religious settings in northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., before returning to Virginia to work three years as director of education at The Mariners’ Museum in Newport News. His non-profit organization career path then led him to the Beaumont, Texas, area, where he served as vice president for development and communications with Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas for four years, followed by nearly eight years as chief executive officer of the Southeast Texas Food Bank within the Feeding America network.
Maher’s recent move within the Feeding America network has returned him to Virginia. He began serving the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank in January of this year.
Buell has has been an active volunteer with the Lions Wilderness Food Pantry since 2017. For the past four years she has been responsible for setting up the “link to feed” program as well as preparing and submitting all monthly federal reports.
Frame is club’s guest in August
Lee H. Frame, representative of District 5 on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, will speak to the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club at its August 11 meeting.
The meeting will take place at 1 p.m. in Classroom 2 of the LOW Community Center. It will be the club’s first in-person meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year. In view of a continuing rise in COVID cases in our area, it is strongly recommended that face masks be worn at the meeting.
Frame, who represents all of Lake of the Woods, will review current issues facing the county and answer questions from members.
The meeting is open to the public without regard to political affiliation.
Annette Hyde, candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates from the 30th District, will speak at the Lake of the Woods Democratic Club’s Juneteenth Day Picnic on June 19.
The picnic will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Community Center Pavilion at Sweetbriar Park. Tickets are for sale in advance at a cost of $12 per person.
The event will be held on the anniversary of Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, which commemorates the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. The observance originated in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, the date that the U.S. Army declared that all those in bondage in Texas were free, two years after President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Hyde, a native of Texas, lives in Madison County, where she is a yoga teacher. She seeks to represent the 30th District, which comprises, Orange, Madison and most of Culpeper counties. The election for a two-year term will take place on Nov. 2.
She is a founding member of the local chapter of Moms Demand Action, a national organization working to prevent gun violence. She is a member of Virginia Career Works – Workforce Development Board and the State Rehabilitation Council for the Virginia Department of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Hyde holds a bachelor of arts in journalism and public relations from the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas. She is married with two sons.
The price of tickets to the picnic includes a fried chicken dinner with potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, cookies and bottled water. Guests may bring their own beverages, if desired.
The program will include a presentation about Juneteenth and its significance to American history. Live music will be performed by Shree.
